Biography:

K yo, sup? My name is Wei Gao and yea......... I am a first year student at the University Of Ottawa with a specialization in Finance. I chose Finance as my specialization cause that's where the money is @ you feel? Anyways, my family immigrated to Canada from China when I was 8 cause my parents wanted to give me more options. When I arrived in Canada, I didn't know any English, making it difficult to make friends and such. However, you learn fast as a infant, and I was speaking fluent english a year later. Nowadays, my hobbies include photography, skateboarding, and music. I have played piano since a young age, and just got my grade 8 piano certificate this past summer. At that time, I decided to explore different instruments and began playing the guitar. During my free time, I also make skateboarding videos which you should watch at youtube.com/weikaig. I spend a solid amount of time on youtube surfing videos, and on other social networks just like all the other kids with the pumped kicks in this generation.

What is Skateboarding?

Let me start y'all of with the basics. Skateboarding will have different meanings for different individuals. It comes in a significant number of forms, from riding down vert ramps, performing radical maneuvers on the driveway, cruising through campus, bombing hills, or practicing tricks at the skatepark. Basically anything that includes riding a wooden board with wheels nailed to the bottom is considered skateboarding. However, there are deeper meanings to the sport that draw on our inner senses of creativity, freedom, and destruction.

What drives people to skate?

Some people believe skating is all about discovery and creation. To "Skate and Create." There are no limitations to the amount of tricks you can do. The combinations of tricks are endless, allowing creativity and artistry without contraints. When you learn a trick or create a trick that has never been done, you get a sense of accomplishment that cannot be matched. There is no rules to skateboarding, and no winning or losing. The game is never over and there is always more to learn. Every skateboarder has their own style on a board, regarding aspects of how they ride and perform tricks. Every skateboarder is unique in their own style. Some also believe that skateboarding is a way to channel anger and rage into something constructive. Either way, skateboarding is all about pushing yourself, and forcing yourself to grow. Skateboarding is about freedom. When it's you and the board, you get a feeling that nothing else matters. Additionally, Skateboarding is about friends who push you and encourage you, not just in skateboarding but in everything else as well.
